Write a personal essay that examines a moment or particular object that you found beautiful during a difficult time in your life. What was this beauty in despite of? Describe the physical and emotional environment that surrounded this object or incident. How did this beauty change your perspective on your situation or on what was going on in the wider world?
5/13 -From Sandra Scofield’s wonderful craft book, The Last Draft:
1. Find a place in the novel where your character acts with fierce intention.
2. Find a place where it seems impossible that she will solve a problem that threatens her happiness-or the happiness of someone she loves.
3. Find a place where he behaves in a way she wouldn’t have chosen to behave, or been able to, in the beginning**If you don’t have such character turns in your novel yet, is it possible to create them?
5/14 – Read this Brenda Miller essay in Brevity and use it an inspiration to write a story or essay that begins with an apology. “I’m sorry for…” See where that takes you!
5/15 – Write about a time something ended. It could be a job, a relationship, a bad habit, a good habit, a horrible meeting, or wonderful vacation.
