6/1 -From Fast Fiction: This was a tough weekend for a lot of people across the country: Write a story about something broken.
6/2 – Sometimes when I’m trying to get started I’ll use a contest or journal topic as my prompt. In this case, little somethings press seeks “work that breathes even as the world falters.” Submit your flash memoir and fiction of up to 300 words, your poetry of up to 12 lines by June 15th. https://littlesomethingspress.com/
The water is one thing, and one thing for miles.
The water is one thing, making this bridge
Built over the water another. Walk it
Early, walk it back when the day goes dim, everyone
Rising just to find a way toward rest again.
We work, start on one side of the day
Like a planet’s only sun, our eyes straight
Until the flame sinks. The flame sinks. Thank God
I’m different. I’ve figured and counted. I’m not crossing
To cross back. I’m set
On something vast. It reaches
Long as the sea. I’m more than a conqueror, bigger
Than bravery. I don’t march. I’m the one who leaps.
Borrow Jericho’s first line and write from it “The water is one thing, and one thing for miles…” Or his last line. Or any line or phrase your read here that inspires you to write.
