“Hanging in There gave me the structure and motivation to finally finish my manuscript and prepare to submit to agents and publishers.”
— Beth, Recent Student
“Hanging in There provided me with the writing, revising, and editing help I needed to get my manuscript completed and out the door. Allison created an incredibly warm and inspiring classroom community in which we offered feedback and guidance in addition to motivating and supporting each other. I credit the publication of my book with her editorial and teaching talents!”
— Kristen Ball, author of A Calf Named Brian Higgins
This master class is for writers who are almost to the finish line with their novel or memoir and want an extra push to finish and polish the manuscript. Former Senior Editor from the Penguin Random House Publishing Group Allison Dickens offers detailed written and oral suggestions in an encouraging, supportive environment. Participants submit 15-20 pages every other week. The class reads those pages and comes to class prepared to discuss what works and what needs clarification. Allison provides written comments on each batch of pages as well. In total, participants should expect to submit and receive feedback on a minimum of 60 pages throughout the course of the workshop. Through the reading and editing of others’ work, you will hone your own revision skills. Discussions often include examples from published works and elements of writing craft such as plot and character development, structure, voice, dialogue, or point of view.
If time allows, you may also share a query letter and/or synopsis for evaluation and discussion as well.
