3-2-1! You only have three sentences, two minutes, one shot: It better be good! Pitching your book to literary agents and publishers can be a scary, pressure-filled experience. Eliminate some of the fear by being prepared. In this workshop we will polish your pitch to perfection focusing on choosing comparison titles, pulling out the most marketable elements, and highlighting the right readership. Your polished pitch will be useful when meeting with agents (the “elevator pitch”) and in emails and query letters. Each participant will submit a one paragraph rough draft pitch and the first few pages of their work to the group ahead of time. In class we will discuss how to refine the pitch to put your best foot forward. Don’t know where to start with a pitch? Don’t worry. We’ll discuss that, too, and send you some guidelines before the course. Take advantage of this safe, comfortable environment to practice before you head out for real submissions.
