All levels are welcome! We’ll explore ways to access our creative spark and to hone our craft. We’ll take some time at the start of each class to discuss a poem, prose poem or work of flash fiction that can serve as a model of excellence. The bulk of our class time, though, will be devoted to the students’ own writing. We’ll concentrate on a variety of topics — simile/metaphor, image, lineation, the distinctions between these genres, diction, voice, etc. What we talk about really depends on the works that students bring to the table. Each class, students will submit a poem, prose poem or work of flash fiction for class discussion. We’ll read them together and talk about what’s working well, and we’ll suggest strategies for revision. Depending on student needs, we may end up trying some in-class exercises as well. Come join us and share your work!
