Join award-winning writer/director Douglas Moser for this exciting 8 week workshop. Whether you seek to write one-act or full-length plays, or even musicals, we’ll help you find your own dramatic voice.
Douglas Moser has been a professional director and playwright for over 30 years. His first play “What Happened to Frances Farmer…” was produced while he was in college, and later produced in New York as part of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Oktoberfest. His adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” won the Connecticut Critics’ Circle Award for its performance at the Westport Country Playhouse. Early in his professional career Doug served as Artistic Director for the Boston Post Road Stage Company, once considered a leading producer of “off-Broadway” in Connecticut. Doug has worked with several playwrights, composers, and lyricists to refine their work. He developed Paula M. Kimper and Wende Person’s groundbreaking opera “Patience & Sarah” from its infancy, workshopping the libretto and score through performances at the American Opera Project all the way to its world premier at Lincoln Center. He also directed the professional debut of Frederick Stroppel’s one-act “Glacier Bay,” starring Jack Klugman and Brett Somers in their theatrical reunion. His film version, starring James Noble (“the Governor” from TVs Benson) and Dorothy Bryce won several awards on the film festival circuit.
He spent one summer as a guest director at the acclaimed Eugene O’Neill Center, as well as the New York Theatre Workshop at Dartmouth. Working with creators Ben Budick, Dave Ogrin, and Steve Mackes, he saw “Wild Women of Planet Wongo” from its early workshop days at University of Michigan through to its New York debut at the Becket Theatre as part of the New York Theatre Musical Festival. Similarly, he developed “Reborn Again Cowgirl” by Pat Watkins, Richard Abernethy, and Werner Fritzsching. Working with Pat Watkins, he later adapted the musical into a screenplay, “Reborn Again,” which is currently being adapted as a television series.
In addition to his ongoing theatre career, Doug is a novelist and memoirist. He is currently refining his novels Pussy Boy, and James & Jim as well as countless short stories, articles, and memoir pieces.
