with Alfred Brown IV
This seven-week course wonders what else writing is capable of? Where, exactly, is writing headed? After brief but thorough investigation of extant forms (fiction, non-fiction, poetry), the class will encourage writers to free themselves of traditional generic boundaries and explore new horizons in their own work. Infused with examples from across a spectrum of artistic mediums, we will use writers like Lydia Davis, Sophie Calle, David Markson, Donald Barthelme, and W.G. Sebald as guiding lights as we craft work that shirks contemporary expectations. This workshop course will be skewed towards constructive peer critique while maintaining small weekly lessons in form, content, and artistic philosophies.
