No writer is an island! The most successful practitioners have a network of peers weighing in on their manuscripts and, more generally, pulling for them. In my class, I seek to create this same nurturing, collaborative atmosphere. Each week, you’ll share a brief excerpt of up to five double-spaced pages from an ongoing project — a novel or short story — and I’ll lead a constructive discussion of the manuscript, highlighting its positive aspects and suggesting ways to improve it. If time allows, there may also be general discussions of craft and some in-class writing.
