with Tara Sullivan

Returning faculty Tara Sullivan will introduce you to her latest young adult novel, Treasure of the World. Set in the mining highlands of Bolivia, it tells the story of Ana, a twelve-year-old girl looking to dig out from under the weight of generational poverty and build a new future for herself and her family. Kirkus, in a starred review, calls it “heartbreakingly splendid.” ... but it certainly didn’t start that way!  In fact, for over five years, the novel went through edit after edit, each completely different from the last. In this craft chat, Tara will walk you through what she learned from the plot, character, world building, and voice edits she had to do. Come prepared to jot notes and scribble your way through hands-on exercises so you can learn from her mistakes and go home with a variety of tips and tricks to improve your own work-in-progress.

Books will be available for purchase and Tara will send personalized, signed bookplates to anyone who would like one.
