"You can never know enough about your characters.” –W. Somerset Maugham
“It begins with a character.” –William Faulkner
"Plot grows out of character.” –Anne Lamott
Writers agree: Compelling characters are essential to successful stories. Dive deeper into your characters in this workshop designed to help you create characters who leap off the page. We will use prompts to explore our existing characters or to create new characters. Who are they, how do we convey who they are to the reader and how does knowing them better open up the story we are trying to tell? Exploring your characters can restart a plot that has stalled while highlighting important themes. We will also practice elements of craft related to character such as dialogue and movement.
