with Adele Annesi

This workshop shows writers how to discover and develop the primary and secondary themes in their short and long fiction. We explore how to create thematic arcs that weave throughout and strengthen the story to develop both plot and characters. Since a key element of thematic development is revision, each writer can bring up to five pages of new and/or revised work weekly to share with the writers and instructor, with a focus on thematic development through the effective use of details. The workshop includes written comments from the instructor on each writer’s work each week, plus a bibliography of resources and references, and a comprehensive list of craft elements with definitions and points to ponder.
