This workshop is designed to help those writers ready to move on to the next level in fiction writing.
Creating a character is as important as plotting a novel or short story. Emphasis will be placed on delving deeper into character development to create more complex, believable figures. We will also focus on bringing your setting to life. Your setting should not only be vivid but become a sensory experience. Reading a good book is much like having a movie play in your head. You can transport your reader into the world you have created. Finally, we will concentrate on narrative arc in order to propel your story to its strongest ending.
Working on a novel can be a solitary and lonely process. Your work will be shared in a safe, supportive environment each week where ideas are freely exchanged and constructive criticism is given as you continue to work on your project.
Manuscript Course: In addition to bringing in five pages per week to read aloud to the class for discussion, each student will have one opportunity to submit up to fifteen double-spaced pages to the instructor and class members. The group will read the work at home, write constructive comments on the pages, and provide feedback to the manuscript in class.
