As women, we often allow the needs of others to take priority in our lives. This workshop will be a time to focus solely on our creative selves. It will be a time for women’s thoughts and stories alone. In this safe and stimulating environment, our creative spirits won’t be able to resist coming out to play.
The Amherst Writers and Artists (AWA) method dissolves writer’s block in surprising ways, connecting us with our authentic writing voices. Both experienced and emerging writers will come away from this workshop with pages and pages of fresh work and a renewed faith in our power as writers and as women.
Using poetry, essay, images and music, our imaginations will be sparked. Together, we’ll write by hand spontaneously and deeply, experimenting in any genre we choose. We’ll be given a chance to read our writing aloud—though no one will ever be pressured to share. We’ll listen to each other’s words with care and respect. And all feedback will only encourage and grow our existing strengths
The sole requirements for this workshop are a desire to write and a willingness to listen carefully to others’ work. Join us to rejuvenate your spirit, tell your stories and celebrate your unique writing voice!
*Trans women are warmly welcome!
Whether your purpose for writing
is artistic expression,
communication with friends and family,
the healing of the inner life,
or achieving public recognition for your art –
the foundation is the same;
the claiming of yourself as an artist/writer
and the strengthening of your writing voice
through practice, study,
and helpful response from other writers.
