It is a wonderful time to be an essay writer; editors are looking for great writing and it might as well be yours! In addition to hundreds of literary magazines, personal essays are being published by all kinds of large media outlets, including print, online and spoken word media– and there are hundreds of essay contests each year. In this session we will learn how to find the publications/contests that publish your writing.
We will also look at what makes an essay stand out. We will discuss the top 3 things that make a good essay great, the 5 things editors look for (and how to work with and pitch editors) and why some essays are rejected and some are accepted. We will look at how to find publications to submit your work to, and how to go about the submission process in an organized and creative way.
