“When you practice reading, and you work at a text, it will give you what you put into it.” – Zadie Smith
As writers, it’s key to study works of others to learn techniques we can apply to our own work. Join me for a book club where we will focus on the craft of writing. Using published essays and memoir excerpts we will learn the techniques of writers who are writing and publishing today.
Sessions will begin with a 45-minute lecture based on specific craft/writing techniques that are illustrated in the preassigned texts. This will be followed by lively discussion of the work, and an in-class short reading and writing session designed to practice the techniques discussed.
Readings will be assigned prior to each session and will be chosen from published nonfiction essays/excerpts. Readings will not exceed 5000 words.
