Flannery O’Connor wrote “Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him for the rest of his days.” In Writing From Your Life, we will draw upon our experiences from childhood, adulthood, love, heartbreak, work, birth and death, to tell the stories of our lives. And while we may share similar experiences, no two stories are the same and no two voices are the same. Dive into your story, develop your voice, and share what makes your life inimitable.
Each week, you’ll have the chance to bring in up to 5, double-spaced pages of work to be shared and discussed in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Attention will be paid to structure, tempo, dialogue and characterization. If time allows, there will be in-class writing prompts.
This class is open for registration by permission of the instructor only. A short manuscript submission is required. Please contact the office if you are interested in registering.
