Do you have a great life story that “wants to be told” but no idea how to get started?
Do you wish to record the stories of your life as a way of passing down information and wisdom to next generations?
Would you like to write engaging personal essays to submit to magazines, newspaper columns, websites? Or would you like to put them up on your own blog?
Do you dream of publishing your memoir as a full-length book?
This is a friendly, supportive workshop in which to write your personal essays and stories, share them with others, and learn good writing techniques to make your work interesting and enjoyable. This workshop is ideal for beginners who wish to get started writing their stories from life for the first time and for writers in their first year of study.
Short lessons will be provided to equip participants with the basic techniques of narrative craft to make the memoir interesting, informative, and compelling. These include: use of scene and summary, internal and external dialogue, character development, sensory experience, and descriptive elements.
Each week, participants will bring short pieces of writing based either on suggested assignments or work they already have in mind to write. These will be read aloud to the group with the objective of receiving feedback in a constructive and supportive atmosphere.
