This workshop deals with the nuts-and-bolts of writing young adult fiction. We’ll begin with a discussion of the current market, attempting to answer what defines a novel as YA. Each day, we’ll focus on a different aspect of the craft of young adult fiction, including voice, setting, plot and dialogue. Examples will be provided for each element of craft along with exercises to help hone your work in progress or inspire your new novel. throughout the intensive, students will share their writing and receive feedback from other students and the workshop leader. By the end of the session, students will have a solid understanding of the most important elements of young adult fiction and how to begin, revise, and publish their novel.
