Depth of View: The Voice of Innocence and The Voice of Experience in Writing Memoir
Complicated truths in memoir are both excavated and illuminated through voice. The voice of innocence informs the reader, “Hey listen, this is what happened to me.” The voice of experience then examines, explores and provides the insight, “This is what it might mean to me and to you, too.” This seminar will explore the work of writers who gain access to these two voices in the same piece of writing. Participants will engage in writing exercises designed to help cultivate their own voice of innocence and experience.
