with Julie Sarkissian
In this manuscript focused class, each writer will submit 1200 words each week in advance of class. The group will come to class having read everyone’s work. Feedback will be shared, contextualized by the writer's specific goals, challenges and intentions. Then the writers will turn back to their writing, working in class to find “the next right thing for the work,” be that directly incorporating the class’s feedback, moving forward with a new scene, developing an old one, adding a new layer or story-line, etc. Finally, we will share what changes we added to the manuscript, and, time permitting, have a second round of feedback. A writing sample of 1500-2000 words maximum is required for entrance to this workshop. Please click this form.
Manuscript Course: In addition to bringing in 1200 words per week to read aloud to the class for discussion, each student will have one opportunity to submit up to fifteen double-spaced pages to the instructor and class members. The group will read the work at home, write constructive comments on the pages, and provide feedback to the manuscript in class.
Optional: Want an extra hour of one-on-one attention?
Julie will provide written feedback on either part of a manuscript OR to help advise with the submission process for a total of an extra hour of consultation time. Please choose this option in the drop-down menu when purchasing this workshop. This extra time will be scheduled directly with the instructor.
