The only time that I have cried in a public forum was when I was on a literary panel, talking about my first book, a memoir about living with bipolar disorder. Someone in the audience asked about how my mother had managed. Looking down at her, sitting in the front row, dignified and relentlessly devoted as she was, I just cried. It took having my own children for me to realize how terrifying it is to parent and care for a person suffering from mental illness. Particularly in a society that continues to stigmatize it’s sufferers. This workshop is designed as a support to those carers. You will be given prompts and exercises to motivate writing in a kind and trusting environment.
